Nantucket is one of the world's most captivating destinations. It is an example of everything that is wonderful about New England, full of historic and cultural attractions.
In Nantucket Town guests can walk the cobblestone streets and step back in time. There are over 800 historic buildings each at least 100 years old and some date back to the late 1600s. The Whaling Museum is just one of more than a dozen preserving Nantucket's past. An array of upscale boutiques, antique shops (click here for a list and links to some of our favorite shops), art galleries, pubs and fine restaurants line the streets. During the summer season, visitors can attend auctions, gallery openings, local theatre, craft fairs and concerts.
Much of Nantucket's charm lies in the fact that it is an island with miles of beaches and bike paths. The gentle surf on the harbor side and the challenging waves on the ocean side provide endless opportunities for water sports. Swimming, surfing, windsurfing, sailing, whale watching, surfcasting and charter fishing are but a few of the activities visitors can enjoy. And of course there are the many secluded areas along bay or ocean shore for sunbathing, reading and quiet relaxation.
